Czech Republic – England Prediction & Tip | EURO 2020 Betting Odds

Tuesday June 22, 2021, 9:00 PM, Wembley Stadium, London

The decisions in Group D will be made on Tuesday evening, with the Czech Republic and England playing out the group victory. We look at the requirements before this game and share our betting tip with you.

England disappoints against Scotland

The English national team is peppered with breathtaking players and the fans were hoping for a real spectacle against Scotland. After the final whistle, however, the performance of the Three Lions was acknowledged with a whistle from the stands, because in the 0-0 draw against clever Scots, the 1966 World Champion fell far short of expectations.

The game got off to a promising start, as central defender John Stones hit the bar after just eleven minutes after a Mason Mount corner kick. Nobody suspected at this time that this would remain the Englishmen’s best chance in this game.

It is no coincidence that the best opportunity came after a set piece. As in the last major event, the 2018 World Cup, the English are most likely to be dangerous from set pieces, but this is also due to the fact that the team simply creates far too few chances despite the high individual quality.

The team from Coach Southgate also seemed far less lively than in the encounter against Croatia, where on the one hand they practiced very strong pressing, on the other hand they challenged the Croatian defense with a fast combination game and lateral shifts.

England only showed their class at the beginning of each two halves and dominated the Scots in the first ten minutes of each of the two halves. After the powerful initial phases, coach Steve Clarke’s team got better and better into the game and the defensive five-man chain rarely had problems. Scotland are playing in the tournament for the first time in 23 years, but acted far smarter than England overall and made up for the individual advantage of the English with a unified team performance.

Kane remains ineffective

A big problem for the English is currently that star striker Harry Kane has so far remained ineffective. At Spurs he contributed 23 goals and 14 assists in 35 league games this season, but this force is not noticeable at the finals. He fell back a few times to avoid the constant surveillance of Grant Hanley and Scott McTominay, but in these cases too little was involved in the build-up game. If he acted as a target player, he was in good hands with the Scottish central defenders.

Alternatives and rotation

The ineffective Harry Kane was replaced in the 74th minute. Marcus Rashford was also unable to set any accents and the English had even less access in the last third. Many spectators are demanding personnel changes in view of the poor performance, but the substitutes showed too few arguments for a starting XI nomination. In addition to Rashford, Jack Grealish is another example of this, because the creative player also remained unsuccessful in the last half hour after being substituted on.

Southgate and his coaching team had hoped that after the first two games the English would not be able to take the group win. After the draw against Scotland, the Three Lions can still be third in the group, which they definitely want to avoid. The hoped-for rotation in the last group game is therefore guaranteed not to take place, because England needs a win against the Czech Republic to finish Group D as winners.

Czech Republic scores against weak Croatians

The Croatians have so far remained far below the very high expectations at this European Championship, because after the opening defeat against England they did not get beyond a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic. In the last group game against Scotland, the Croatians absolutely need a win if the European Championship is not to be over after the group stage.

What was surprising in the game against the Czech Republic was that the Croatians hardly practiced an offensive pressing, but instead gave their opponents a lot of possession when building up the game. Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic did not necessarily attribute this to the given tactics, but to the low energy level of his players. Regeneration is the order of the day before the last group game against Scotland.

After beating Scotland and drawing against Croatia, Czech Republic is in a comfortable position and will probably advance to the round of 16 even if they lose to England. A draw against the Three Lions is enough to celebrate the group victory. The player of the tournament for the Czechs is undoubtedly Patrik Schick, who has been responsible for all three goals his team has scored so far. The Bayer Leverkusen striker caused the penalty against the Croatians and converted it himself despite a bleeding nose.

Betting tip – Under 2.5 goals

In the previous two group games of the English, there was only one goal, which is primarily due to Southgate’s pragmatic style of play. His protégés seemed largely unimaginative against Scotland in the offense and found it difficult to create good chances.

Against the Czech Republic, the task will not be much easier, because against the Croatians the team of coach Jaroslav Šilhavý presented themselves extremely viciously and the players withstood the Croatian pressure after the equalizer until the final whistle.

It is not inconceivable that the English national team will deliver a playful fireworks display in the last group game after the crackling criticism from outside, but we assume that Southgate will not change much of its tactics and that the group favorite will continue to have problems with the creation of opportunities. We are therefore guessing that there will be fewer than 2.5 goals in the game between the Czech Republic and England.
