South Korea World Cup 2022 Preview

The 0-0 draw between South Korea and Uruguay was a goalless draw of the better sort. The South Koreans, who were extremely hard working stood up to the individual superiority of Uruguay and thus earned a respectable point.

South Korea hardly produced any scoring opportunities, collecting only 0.20 Expected Goals, but they did put a stop to Uruguay’s attacking power by consistently shutting down players such as Luis Suárez and Darwin Núñez. Against Ghana, however, it will be important for the Koreans to be more active on the attack as well.

Especially in the second half, South Korea had the Uruguayans well under control. They only lacked clear scoring opportunities.

The South Korean defense, in which all four players carry the surname Kim, is certainly worth highlighting. For the less knowledgeable football fan, this makes it difficult to distinguish all the players from each other, but especially the enormously strong running wing-backs Jin-su Kim and Moon-hwan Kim showed excellent performances and will also play a key role against Ghana.

In the remaining games, South Korea will now rely heavily on the ability to better involve Tottenham Hotspur attacking star and captain Heung-min Son in the game.

Ghana World Cup 2022 Preview

Ghana were considered one of the biggest underdogs before the tournament. However, in the 3-2 defeat against Portugal, the team led by Otto Addo showed how much heart and quality they have.

Ghana’s central midfield was particularly convincing, with Thomas Partey providing the necessary physicality, but Mohammed Kudus in particular delivered a very appealing performance. However, Ghana also revealed problems in defense, where especially Abdul Rahman Baba, Mohammed Salisu and Alexander Djiku had difficulties. This affected the centre and the left side of defense.

However, Ghana are more stable on the right wing, which will be important against South Korea because their opponents have star player Heung-min Son starting on that side.

In the second half, Ghana were able to keep the favored Portuguese busy – but it was still not enough to earn a point.

André Ayew, the experienced captain of the Ghanaians, is always capable of scoring a goal and will be the target player against South Korea as well. Overall, the Africans were stronger than one might have expected before the tournament.

Team comparison South Korea vs. Ghana

In favor of South Korea:

+ Hard working squad
+ Good tactical discipline, especially at the back
+ Very solid defense, which has allowed very little recently
+ The advantage of having already won an unexpected point

In favor of Ghana:

+ Efficient on the attack
+ Strong central midfield around Partey and Kudus
+ Team manager Addo can bring in quality from the bench
+ South Korea have problems creating scoring opportunities

The last duel

The encounter between South Korea and Ghana has already taken place seven times in football history. South Korea has won three times, Ghana four times and there has never been a draw.

The last meeting took place in June 2014 in the USA. At that time, Ghana won with a resounding 4-0 victory. Jordan Ayew, who is also in Ghana’s 2022 World Cup squad, scored three goals.

South Korea – Ghana Over Under Prediction

The South Koreans struggled to create clear scoring opportunities in their first match against Uruguay and only managed an Expected Goals value of 0.20. Although South Korea can be expected to be more attack-minded against Ghana, the Asians have some shortcomings, especially when they have to control the game. South Korea will only be dangerous if they are allowed to execute their intensive pressing style.

Ghana were extremely efficient against Portugal, but they could also have problems against the strong South Koreans when they have the ball. In addition, the match will be quite explosive due to the results from the first matchday, so it is to be expected that the spectators will see a very tight fight with many duels. We therefore opt for an “Under 2.5”, i.e. a maximum of two goals scored in the match.

South Korea – Ghana Prediction

When South Korea and Ghana have met, there has always been a winner in seven matches so far. This time, however, there is a lot pointing to the first draw in this duel. The performance level of the two teams is comparable and that is also how the bookmakers feel, offering almost completely even odds for the match.

South Korea already have the benefit of earning a point against Uruguay and Ghana must win if they want to retain a realistic opportunity to reach the last 16. That, in turn, suits South Korea, who can take a wait-and-see approach and wait for counter-attacking opportunities. We assume that both teams will be able to make their moves in this match, which is why we are betting on a draw between South Korea and Ghana.

South Korea – Ghana Correct Score Bet

In Ghana’s first match against the strong Portuguese defense, you could already see that some of the players are capable of scoring goals. For example, captain André Ayew, who earns his money in Qatar with Al-Sadd.

South Korea have not yet created many scoring opportunities, but they can certainly improve thanks to their top star Heung-min Son. Ghana will allow more than Uruguay did in the first game, so the Koreans will probably get their chances to score. In addition, it is to be expected that South Korea will be able to act in a rather wait-and-see manner and use their dangerous transition game to get in front of the opponent’s goal.

Our South Korea Ghana correct score bet is 1-1.
