Brazil World Cup 2022 Preview

Brazil fulfilled their obligations early on in the group stage, advancing to the round of 16 after two games. In the match against Cameroon, Tite used numerous substitutes and although the Brazilians built up an Expected Goals value of 3.17, the ball just wouldn’t go in.

Cameroon only managed 0.44 Expected Goals themselves, but that was enough to deliver a lucky punch at the end. The Africans won sensationally 1-0, but were still eliminated from the tournament. The Brazilians thus conceded their first goal of the tournament. In the three group matches, the opponents only managed 0.73 Expected Goals.

owever, the Brazilians have to accept the criticism that they score too few goals. The three goals scored in the group stage are clearly too few for the team with so much offensive power. In the knockout games, the South Americans will have to be much more efficient.

In the end, the defeat against Cameroon is not a serious blow and Tite was able to spare his regular players, which means they should be back in full strength against South Korea. However, the Brazilians’ regulars must now deliver and there are no more excuses. From now on, the Brazilians must not lose any more games if they want to achieve the big goal of winning their sixth World Cup title.

Nevertheless, Brazil were lucky, because South Korea could be an easier opponent than expected. Brazil is thus spared an unpleasant duel with Uruguay, for example, but of course they must also be warned against the Koreans after their victory over Portugal.

South Korea World Cup 2022 Preview

With a win against the Portuguese, who were already qualified, South Korea booked their place in the round of 16 as runners-up on the last matchday. From here on, everything else is a nice bonus for the Asians.

Against Portugal, however, the South Koreans put in a very mature performance and managed to keep the game virtually even throughout. With the higher efficiency, the sensation finally was achieved.

Against Portugal, South Korea played in a relatively offensive 4-3-3 system. In the round of 16 against Brazil, however, team boss Paulo Bento will again tend to adopt a wait-and-see approach.
